PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT IN MOH OPHTHALMOLOGY SERVICE

The Ministry of Health (MOH) launched the implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in February 2008 with the aim to assess the overall performance of services provided by Clinical Departments in MOH. KPIs measure performance in the aspects of quality and safety, and productivity, of structure, process or outcome of a service. When measuring quality and safety, the two dimensions included are (a) patient-focused care and (b) clinical effectiveness and risk management, while for productivity, the dimension is workload. (Details in downloadable document below)

From 2008 to 2011, there were initially 7 KPIs being measured in MOH Ophthalmology Service. However, the Quality Unit, MOH revised these measurements in January 2012. Following this major revision, performance measurement for Ophthalmology has been reduced to 3 KPIs with the other measurements remain as PIs. Rate of Posterior Capsular Rupture during Cataract Surgery has also been removed both from KPI and NIA lists.

In July 2014, the Quality Unit, MOH revised these measurements to 3 KPIs for Department and the rest as individual KPI for Ophthalmologist and subspecialty KPI.
